There is no charge for in-home repair calls to repair or replace Cox rented
equipment or any coaxial cable, telephone twisted pair or fiber optic cable
up to the minimum point of entry (MPOE) of a customer’s premise. The MPOE is
the point where Cox’s facilities initially connect to a customer’s home
wiring (usually on the outside wall of the customer’s home).
There is a $75 charge for in-home repair calls for customer-owned wiring including
home wiring (including in-line connections, fittings, splitters, amplifiers
and wall plates), wiring configuration, wire damage (regardless of fault)
and education on Cox equipment or service.
HOME WIRING
The minimum point of entry (MPOE) is the point
where Cox’s facilities initially connect to a customer’s home wiring (usually on
the outside wall of the customer’s home). Homeowners own all of the cable,
Internet and telephone wiring within their home beyond the MPOE.
Home wiring is defined as the internal wiring within a customer’s
premises or dwelling unit.
- Television – the coaxial cable that exists between the MPOE and the
cable receiver or television. It includes in-line connections,
fittings, splitters, amplifiers and wall plates.
- High Speed Internet – the coaxial cable that exists between the MPOE
and the cable modem. It includes in-line connections, fittings,
splitters, amplifiers and wall plates. Also included is the twisted pair
wiring (usually CAT5 or greater) that exists inside the walls between the
cable modem and data port.
- Telephone – the twisted pair wiring that exists inside the walls between the MPOE and
the telephone wall jack. For customers using a Cox-provided modem for
telephone service, the coaxial cable provided by Cox at installation, which
is connected to the telephone modem is not considered home wiring and is
covered at no charge under the Cox Repair Policy.
Customer Options for Home Wiring Installation and Repair
Customers have the option of modifying the home wiring themselves or hiring
a contractor to modify any home wiring as long as these actions do not
interfere with the Cox-owned facilities.
- It is important that high-quality home wiring materials be used and
properly installed to avoid signal leakage and to maintain signal
quality in compliance with FCC technical regulations.
- If improper materials or installation cause signal degradation
and/or leakage, Cox may restrict customer’s cable service access until
the problem can be remedied.
- In cases where a Cox-provided modem is professionally installed for
telephone service, customers should not alter the coaxial cable connected to
the telephone modem. This coaxial cable is covered at no charge under the
Cox Repair Policy. However, if the original coaxial cable is replaced or
altered by the customer, minimum repair charges will apply.
If a customer chooses to have Cox modify or repair the wiring inside
his/her home, estimated fees will be quoted over the phone at the time
an appointment is scheduled and will also be reviewed by the Cox
representative prior to proceeding with any wire modification or repair.
