(SAN DIEGO) – On February 17, 2009, the nation will undergo a dramatic and historic change in how television signals are broadcast over the air. Cox Communications recognizes that many consumers have questions and may be worried whether or not their TV will work after that date. To help consumers understand what the digital transition means to them, Cox Communications will be hosting “Digital Transition Awareness Day” at its retail stores in San Diego County.
The event is open to the public, and will include prizes, food, music and an HDTV giveaway at each location. Subject matter experts will be available to answer the public’s digital transition questions and explain more about the options available to consumers. Under a federal mandate, broadcast television stations must return their analog air waves and begin transmitting their signals in digital format beginning February 17, 2009. Televisions that are connected to Cox Communications’ cable service or another video provider will continue to work after the transition. However, televisions that still need an antenna or rabbit ears for reception may not be able to receive digital signals when the broadcasters implement the digital transition.
