$170,000 In Grants Up For Grabs Through Cox Kids Foundation

(SAN DIEGO) October 2008 – The Cox Kids Foundation, a fund of the San Diego Foundation, is now accepting grant proposals from San Diego-based nonprofits. A whopping $170,000 is available to support San Diego nonprofits that make a difference in our community in the following areas:

  • Foster Youth – to improve the lives of children in foster care and help them become self-sufficient;
  • Disabled Youth – to improve the lives of children with physical disabilities;
  • Childhood Obesity Prevention – to help our youth make healthy choices to prevent chronic health programs later in life;
  • Conservation Education – to educate youth about ways they can protect and enjoy the environment.

Through the Cox Kids Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Cox Communications
more than 1,000 employees donate funds from their paychecks. The funds are matched 100 percent by the company to support local children in families in need in the areas of health, education and social services.

Applications for a Cox Kids Foundation grant of up to $20,000 each will be considered through October 31, 2008.  Eligible nonprofit organizations must be a 501(c)3, be located or provide services in a San Diego County Cox service area, and provide services in one of the four areas listed above. To date, nearly $3 million has been raised through the Cox Kids Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Cox Communications, for community programs for children and families in need in the area of health, education and social services. For more information, visit www.coxkidsfoundation.org.
