HEADLINE NEWS ANCHOR CHRISTI PAUL TO CO-HOST SOLD OUT TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARDS

ATLANTA (August 26, 2008) – Headline News anchor Christi Paul will join Channel 4 San Diego’s Dennis Morgigno as co-host of “Cox Presents: A Salute to Teachers brought to you by Ashford University” at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20 from the newly renovated Balboa Theatre in downtown San Diego. The Academy Awards-style television special honors the county’s 26,000 public school teachers, culminating with the announcement of the San Diego County Teachers of the Year.  “Cox Presents: A Salute to Teachers brought to you by Ashford University” is produced by Cox Communications’ Channel 4 San Diego in cooperation with the San Diego County Office of Education.

Christi Paul, CNN Headline NewsBased in CNN's world headquarters in Atlanta, Ga., Paul joined the network in April 2003 as a weekend anchor. She serves on the board of Safe Kids Georgia and is an ambassador for the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation. She was recently named "Outstanding Alumna" from the University of Toledo's Department of Communication. Paul has a bachelor of arts degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Toledo in Ohio.

Celebrity presenters and musical and dance performances include: the highly sought after Bunnel Strings family quintet; local dance team the Mystic Steppers; award-winning show choir the Main Attraction from Chula Vista High School; and songstresses Andria Elam and Deanna Morrison, who will perform “For Good” from Wicked. “Cox Presents: A Salute to Teachers” will air LIVE on Channel 4 San Diego for Cox Communications and Time Warner Cable customers, in high definition on Cox Channel 704, and on ITV Channel 16. Tickets to see this live event at the Balboa Theatre are sold out!!!

Named by their respective districts as “Teacher of the Year,” the 43 nominees were selected based on student achievement, professional development and community involvement, teaching philosophy and personal style, knowledge of educational issues and trends, promotion and development of the teaching profession, accountability and ability to serve as ambassadors of education.

This year marks the 35th annual Teacher of the Year recognition program, coordinated by the San Diego County Office of Education, and the 18th year the black-tie awards ceremony will be aired live by Cox Communications. The five named San Diego County Teachers of the Year during “Cox Presents: A Salute to Teachers” will represent the county in the California Teacher of the Year program.

Sponsors include Ashford University, Time Warner Cable, University of Phoenix, Sycuan, University of San Diego, San Diego County Credit Union, National University, Cymer, Cisco, The Fish Market, NBC Universal, Ford Dealers, Sunshine Communications and Turner Networks.

Last year, two reigning County Teachers of the Year, Andee Aceves of Lemon Grove School District and Tammy Reina of the County Office of Education’s Juvenile Court and Community Schools, were both named 2008 California Teachers of the Year, a supreme honor in a state with more than 300,000 public school teachers.
