(SAN DIEGO) May 14, 2008 – Cox Business has been selected by the University of San Diego as its exclusive telecommunications provider of voice, video and data services for its 180-acre campus, which serves 7,000 students and has approximately 2,000 employees.

Under the five-year agreement, students and faculty will be connected to Cox Business’s state-of-the art telecommunications services via Cox’s fiber optic network. Voice, video and data services will be available in office buildings, classrooms, campus housing, and common areas throughout the campus.

Cox Business was able to provide cable television services to the university under the new state franchise law, DIVCA (Digital Infrastructure Video Competition Act). With the agreement, students will receive the very best in communications and entertainment services. “One of the University’s strategic initiatives has been the implementation of state-of-the-art technology to support and enhance the wonderful academic and social environment that makes USD special.  Indeed, this new partnership and the premier technology offered by Cox is a new, important element that will support the advancement of technology and services at the University of San Diego,” stated Chris Wessels, Vice Provost and Chief Information Officer.

“Given the university’s reputation for excellence in education and Cox Business’s reputation for providing an advanced, reliable network and award-winning customer service, this partnership is a win-win for everyone, including the students,” said Larry Coval, Vice President of Cox Business in San Diego.

Cox Business offers a wide array of telecommunications services including custom-designed and managed networks with dedicated data transmission up to OC-192 speeds over fiber, T-1 and ATM, High Speed Internet access as well as VPN (virtual private networks); local telephone and long distance services; web hosting and E-commerce; and carrier access services, video services and music choice.

In addition to USD, Cox Business is the telecommunication provider to San Diego State University and Point Loma Nazarene University.
